In July, we had a party to celebrate summer, our friends, our new deck, and Baby O. The funny thing is that when we originally planned this party back in April, it was before I was even pregnant. But it worked out to be just the perfect time to let our closest friends know that they would soon have a tiny new friend coming into the picture this winter. It was so much fun telling everyone and seeing their reactions. Some were surprised, most were not (I think they could sense we had babies on the brain). So despite the rancid humidity, the party was a success. It was a wonderful day of burgers, beer, bags and all things summer.
My favorite thing about our friends is that despite the fact that a lot of us are in very different places in our lives when it comes to careers, marriage, kids, and relationships, everyone is so gracious when it comes to being genuinely supportive of every stage of life, regardless of where they're at themselves. I think that's what friendship is all about...meeting someone halfway, taking a genuine interest in their life, and cheering them along on whatever path they choose.
We had the distinct pleasure of re-living Deck Party 2011 just a few nights ago when our friend Brian emailed us the link to a video he made of the big day. It turned out amazing thanks to his hard work (and the keen eye for detail of his production assistant, Kari). THANK YOU Kari and Brian for making the awesome video!!!!! I actually got to get in on The Party action a little bit all the way from North Carolina! :-) Wish I could have been there!
